If you have larger items to donate Moray Waste Busters provides a van collection service.

We can uplift up to 5 items free of charge in the local area (Forres, Nairn, Elgin) Outwith this area please contact us for more information.

If you have more than 5 items for collection please specify during the booking to make sure there is enough room on the van or see whether our House Clearance service would be more suitable.

Our van is always busy so it’s wise to book 1-2 weeks in advance.

What can we collect?

Items must be in good resalable condition. Sofas and upholstered furniture will need a fire safety label still attached and must be in good clean condition with no major signs or wear or damage.

We do not collect or accept donations on site of mattresses, divan bed bases, large household goods like fridges or washing machines, large wall units, pianos, general waste or items left outside.

We may ask you to email pictures of your items to ensure that they are compliant with current resale legislation.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT DONATING UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE

New rules are now in place for donating upholstered furniture like sofas, office chairs, footstools, and futons.

WHAT ARE POPs?

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) are toxic chemicals often found in fire retardants used in soft furnishings. POPs are harmful to humans and animals, and don’t break down easily. Because of this, they can damage the environment and affect health. Items with POPs cannot go to recycling or landfill and must be sent for incineration instead.

WHICH ITEMS CONTAIN POPs?

• Sofas

• Sofa beds

• Armchairs

• Kitchen and dining room chairs

• Stools and foot stools

• Home office chairs

• Futons, bean bags and, floor and sofa cushions

• Electrical recliner chairs

(Manufactured before 2019)

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR MORAY WASTE BUSTERS

We can still sell furniture that contains POPs, as normal use of this furniture is considered low risk BUT only if it’s in excellent condition. This means no rips, tears, cat scratches, heavy wear & smoke free. We’ll ask for clear photos of any items you want us to collect as our van drivers cannot transport anything that doesn’t meet safe resale standards.

Please contact the Moray Council Bulky Uplift Service on 0300 1234565 to collect any items we cannot take.

If you drop off items at our site, a staff member will check them before accepting them. Anything that doesn’t meet safe resale standards will be directed to the Moray Council POPs skip on their site.

Deliveries

We are pleased to be able to offer our customers a local free delivery service for larger items bought in our shop. Please ask a member of staff in store for help.
