Who are we?

Moray Waste Busters is a registered charity and social enterprise.

How does a social enterprise work?

As a social enterprise we are run by a Board of volunteer Directors, they decide long term strategy on where MWB could grow.

Where does the money you make go?

The definition of a social enterprise is: a small not-for-profit business whose primary objective is to generate surplus income to put into the business and the community.

Our aim is to use our surplus income to further our social and environmental goals.

In short, all money raised goes straight back into us. We use the funds to run our enterprise.

Socially, this allows us to offer free collection and delivery within the local area, we offer Education talks and visits to local schools and groups and we donate thousands of reusable items to other charities, schools, nurseries and community groups and through social work.

We also employ and offer work placements to local people.

Environmentally this allows our staff to process and sort items that would otherwise have gone to landfill.

How can you charge anything if you get given everything for free? Good question!

Whilst we do get a lot of items generously donated, most of our things are collected by our van for free. There is a fee for collections outwith our local area but that’s just to cover fuel.

Some items like the small electricals and the bikes require work and testing, our fully qualified bike mechanic and PAT testers carry out thorough checks before putting items out for sale.

Other items like furniture and household items still require checking and in some cases cleaning to ensure they meet the Revolve Scotland guidelines and are suitable for reuse.

Thats what a social enterprise is and thats what we do! 🙂
